We have just ended a very successful day at Westminster community centre!!!
As mentioned in previous posts, we are reaching out into new areas of our town to try and help as many people as we are able. Today, we hosted an open day to reach families of the Westminster. We had a day packed with lots of fun activities. Erika had a table full of Halloween crafts for the children to enjoy.
We also had a pumpkin carving station for parents to help their child carve their own spooky designs on pumpkins. Each family got their very own pumpkin to carve and take home ready for their trick or treating. We also had lots of hot food, hot dogs and a yummy chicken stew, followed by cakes and a nice hot chocolate.
We have mentioned several times over the last couple of weeks that we have been working on a project with Cadent to make our homes safer this winter. At all of our events over the last couple of weeks we have had two of our energy advisers around to discuss carbon monoxide dangers in your homes. We have been giving out handy detectors with information guides on what to watch out for in the home. Other energy advice has also been provided to ensure people are keeping their homes warm this winter.
Another service we have been offering out is slow cooker classes.
Each session will host 5 people who are eager to learn new ways to cook. Every group will run over a 5 week period and will be given their own slow cooker to take home along with the ingredients and the recipe. During the class, we will give demonstrations and tips, as well as some warm samples before sending you home to make your own meals. At the end of the 5 week course, you will be given a small recipe book with the meals we will have made, plus a couple of extra so you can continue to learn from your experience. Please do get in touch if this is something you would like to join in with.
Bye for now
Jade.
